Delicious Lemon Tofu
A quick and easy fried tofu with lemon dressing which takes just 15 minutes to make.
Lemon tofu is about the best thing ever. Tofu on its own might not taste much, but with the help of our wonderful lemon sauce, we managed to transform something totally bland into an extraordinary appetizer and side dish. For this recipe, we used fried tofu bought from the supermarket.
Fried tofu it's airier a bit and has a crust formed on the sides. It overall tastes a little better and works like magic with the lemon sauce. Having said that you can use any firm tofu you want. It works with smoked tofu also.
What is lemon tofu
When you are a beginner vegan, you might think you need to replace steak with tofu. But the reality is far from it. You can have a super varied diet with a lot of goodies in it. For example, when we sometimes make vegan sausages which are delicious and taste so, so good. But I think the most confusing thing is how to make tofu taste lovely. I'm going to admit, for a long time I stayed away from tofu because I always thought it tastes so bland. But add spices, herbs and a drizzle of lemon sauce and your whole world will change.
Serve this lemon tofu with on a bed of barley rice with some veg on the side and you have the perfect lunch and dinner.
How to make lemon tofu
The first thing you need to do is have your lemon sauce ready. I like to make it in advance and keep it in the fridge for a week or two. I suggest you do the same as this sauce is magical and really works with everything you can imagine, including desserts.
So head over to our lemon sauce recipe and make it! It takes less than 10 to make the lemon sauce and all you need is a few basic ingredients like lemon juice, sugar, vinegar and cornflour.
Right, it's time to make the tofu. Cut the tofu into small cubes. Heat a little olive oil in a frying pan and add the cubed tofu. Add chilli, some Italian herbs and some sesame seed to the pan. Mix so the herbs and spices are evenly distributed on your tofu cubes.
Fry for about 5-6 minutes, turning the cubes from time to time so they are nicely fried on all sides.
Serve in a bowl or on a plate and drizzle lots of the lemon sauce over the tofu. Decorate with fresh basil leaves and enjoy with rice and veg on the side. Delicious!
